  • Your Lifestyle and Your Risk for Bladder Cancer

    Article Presented by:
    Jon M. Stout

Each year more and more research is conducted on how to reduce your risk of developing cancer. For some forms of cancer, it"(tm)s fairly simple to understand how to reduce risk. For example, we know that most lung cancer victims are smokers, and that many cases of skin cancer are caused by unprotected over exposure to the sun. For other cancers, understanding how to reduce our risk is not so simple, because we don"(tm)t really understand what causes them.

Even in cancers that we don"(tm)t fully understand, scientists are working to determine how our lifestyle might increase our risks. For example, a study was conducted in Nagoya, Japan to help better understand the lifestyle factors that might contribute to the development of urinary bladder cancer. The study also evaluated lifestyle habits that actually reduce your risk of bladder cancer. The findings were interesting, and can help us make lifestyle choices that can protect our health.

This study examined the following lifestyle habits and their ability to increase or reduce risk for urinary bladder cancer:

Cigarette Smoking "" Cigarette Smoking was found to increase the risk of developing urinary bladder cancer. The increased risk was more significant in women than men.

Drinking cocoa "" Interestingly enough, drinking cocoa was associated with an elevation in risk of urinary bladder cancer in men, but not in women.

Hair Color "" Women who used hair color had a slightly elevated risk of developing urinary bladder cancer if they also smoke. However, non smoking women had no significant risk factor if they used hair color.

Drinking coffee- Coffee drinking showed no elevated risk "" but it showed no benefit, either.

Drinking alcohol "" No significant risk was associated with alcohol intake.

Drinking sodas "" No significant risk was associated with drinking sodas.

Drinking fruit juice- Fruit juice was associated with a decreased risk in developing urinary bladder cancer in men. No risk or benefit was notable in women.

Drinking Tea "" Women who drank black tea and powdered green tea showed a reduced risk of developing urinary bladder cancer. The figures for men showed no increase or decrease of risk.

What"(tm)s So Great About Tea and Fruit?

This study echoes the findings of many other studies, indicating that tea and fruit are of benefit in preventing cancer. Scientists are now fully beginning to understand how important these substances are to protecting our health. But, why are they so important? Well, the answer is in anti-oxidants.

Anti-oxidants have the power to combat free radicals. Free radicals are produced naturally by our body during the process of converting the food we eat to energy. These free radicals speed up the aging process, and can cause clogged arteries, cancer and other disease by damaging our cells and DNA.

Fruits, vegetables and tea are filled with anti-oxidants. A diet rich in these foods, therefore, help rid our bodies of the free radicals that put our health at risk. Some foods and beverages have more potent anti-oxidants than others. Doctors recommend that we make these "super foods" part of our everyday life.

    Fruits

All fresh fruits are rich in anti-oxidants. However, the ones that are the most potent include blueberries, pomegranates, strawberries and cranberries.

    Vegetables

Again, fresh vegetables supply a good dose of anti-oxidants. Tomatoes, which contain lycopene, are one of the best vegetables you can eat. However, artichokes and red beans are also very good anti-oxidant sources.

    Tea

Tea is a simple way to get your anti-oxidants. Tea comes from the camellia sinensis plant. There are many types of tea on the market, but all tea comes from the same plant.

The difference between green, white and black tea comes from the way the tea is processed. Black tea is fermented; white and green are not. Green and white tea have been found to be better sources of anti-oxidants because they fermenting that black tea goes through changes the anti-oxidants into compounds that are not as healthy.

The study quoted above found that black tea had the same benefits as green tea in preventing urinary bladder cancer in women. However, most other studies conducted on the benefits of tea have concluded that green tea is better.

Green tea began gaining attention because of the significantly lower incidence of cancer and heart disease in Asian culture. Even though Asians are more likely to smoke than Americans, they have lower incidence of cancer and heart disease "" even lung cancer. It appears that their high consumption of green tea protects their health in a way that other dietary habits do not.

Research has even suggested that green tea may be effective at treating patients who already have cancer. Several studies, on different forms of cancer, have shown that traditional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, are more effective when green tea is administered along with the treatment. Green tea seems to increase the concentration of the drugs in the cancerous cells and slows down cancer progression, perhaps even preventing metastasis.

Much of the research that has been performed has been on mice or in-vitro, though the study outlined above was performed on humans. The next step in truly understanding how foods, including tea, can protect our health, preventing cancer and other disease, is to conduct more human trials. The results could take years, because human trials on prevention require following subjects over a long period of time.

Preventing cancer is a national health concern. Certainly, much more study is required before we can gain true understanding of how to protect our health. One thing"(tm)s for sure, however; a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and tea is a good start!

Combating Cancer With a Cup of Tea

    Article Presented by:
    Marcus Stout

Generations of families in India and Asia have been turning to tea to cure what ails them. Back in the year 1191, a Zen priest penned a work entitled the Book of Tea, which told how green tea could benefit at least five vital organs, including the heart. At that time, green tea was thought to improve urinary and brain function, combat beriberi disease, and alleviate indigestion. In other words, green tea was considered to be a multi-purpose elixir, able to treat a wide variety of health problems.

But this ancient remedy has now found a place in modern scientific literature, thanks to a new wave of studies on the medicinal properties of green tea. While studies on human subjects have been inconclusive, initial evidence from the laboratory looks incredibly promising.

While green tea can be beneficial in attacking everything from high cholesterol to depression, it has perhaps gotten the most attention for its impact on cancer. In order to understand the significance of this, it is first necessary to have some knowledge of the disease of cancer itself.

Cancer: A Disease of the Genes

When cancer occurs, cells divide uncontrollably, meaning that the genes controlling cell growth have been damaged in some way. In fact, a gene has to mutate a number of times before a typical cell will change into a cancer cell.

Antioxidants are important because they can stop the enzyme activities that give rise to cancer. In essence, they repair DNA problems which have been caused by oxidants, or free radicals.

    Green Tea""A Natural Antioxidant

Green tea has been considered a godsend for good health because it contains antioxidants known as catechins. These substances have been called impressive inhibitors of cancer growth. Here"(tm)s how they do it: lab tests show that they combat oxidants prior to cell injuries, stop the growth of tumor cells, and reduce the occurrence of tumors.

For instance, mice tumors were found to shrink when the lab animals ingested green tea. This phenomenon occurred whether the cancer affected the liver, the skin, or the stomach.

    Green Tea and Cancer Prevention

In an article which appeared in the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, authors Santosh Katiyar and Hasan Mukhtar noted that the special properties found in tea can help prevent cancer, according to the experimental data available. This is significant, considering the wide availability of tea. As the authors recognize, tea is grown in about 30 different countries and it"(tm)s considered to be the most popular beverage worldwide.

Most scientific studies using tea have focused on the therapeutic effects of green tea. In these lab tests, the green tea is fed to mice as an extract in water or in a purified form. Green tea has even been found to have some positive medicinal effect before birth in the womb.

    A Variety of Uses

Interestingly enough, medical research shows that the benefits of green tea are not limited to combating only one type of cancer. In fact, consuming green tea may help prevent the development of cancers of the stomach, lungs, esophagus, pancreas, liver, breast, and colon.

Still, even researchers admit that the reasons behind green tea"(tm)s broad therapeutic effects are not clear. A number of theories have been put forward""theories which require further investigation.

The Effects of Tea Drinking on Human Beings

Much of what we know about green tea"(tm)s effects comes from animal studies. While some research indicates that tea drinkers are less prone to cancer, other studies offer a conflicting view. This may be because there are a number of environmental factors which can contribute to the development of cancer, including diet, carcinogens in one"(tm)s living space, and the like.

Still, in China, where green tea is particularly popular, research results are encouraging. A study of more than 18,000 Chinese men found that tea drinkers were far less likely to experience stomach cancer than non-tea drinkers. Yet, a Netherlands study involving tens of thousands of men and women indicated there was no link between drinking tea and cancer prevention.

    The Continuing Medical Debate

The debate over the health benefits of green tea continues at the highest levels of government and academia. For instance, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration asserts that green tea does not reduce the risk of breast, prostate, or any other type of cancer. The FDA also states that green tea does not reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

However, a study published in the fall of 2006 in the Journal of the American Medical Association directly contradicts the FDA"(tm)s contentions. That study indicated that drinking three or more cups of green tea could reduce the risk of death from heart disease.

    Future Research Possibilities

Yet, there is a continued push toward additional research of the green tea phenomenon. For instance, the National Cancer Institute is especially interested in exploring the ability of green tea to prevent skin cancer. Researchers are examining the effects of both green tea in pill form and green tea creams applied directly to the skin.

Are You Wasting Money By Paying Your Web Designer For SEO?

    Article Presented by:
    Tom Shivers

Web site designers know that keeping the client happy is the most important thing; however, this approach often backfires when one of the client"(tm)s goals is to gain top search engine rankings. Good SEO web site design delivers a beautiful and functional website, a pleasant experience for those who use it, and a search engine-friendly design. But what happens when a web designer has a client who wants esthetics or navigation that takes away from the site"(tm)s ability to gain top search engine rankings? Do web developers go along with their client"(tm)s wishes at the expense of search engine rankings, or do they politely guide the client toward achieving all of their goals?

The biggest difference between web designers and SEO professionals is what motivates them: creativity versus strategic thinking. A web designer is ultimately motivated by making a website look good to the client, thus satisfying them visually. An SEO professional is ultimately motivated to gain top search engine rankings for competitive keywords, thus gaining visibility. More business owners are now waking up to the fact that web designers are more artists than online marketers. So it is vital to have the SEO professional and web designer work together cooperatively on web site design.

"We do search engine optimization, too." Often, a web site design company does a few aspects of search engine optimization but does not really do what it takes to gain top rankings. Companies can get roped in on this claim because a firm does a great job at web site design or because the client has "one-stop shop" syndrome, and so assumes a design firm is equally skilled at SEO.

Most web developers do not consider the implications of search engine optimization during the design phase. For example, to gain top rankings for competitive keywords requires outranking hundreds or even thousands of other websites that have already been optimized for that keyword. Simply updating the meta tags will rank the site at the bottom of the "optimized" heap and will require ongoing work to gain a top ranking.

The client wants to keep costs down, so the web developer compromises the SEO to stay within budget. The client needs to know from his advisors (designers and SEO professional) what is and is not practical, so he can reassess the budget and design based on information supplied by an SEO expert. Because budget is important, developers often shortcut past this advisory checkpoint "" at the expense of gaining top rankings for the client"(tm)s site.

It"(tm)s important to find a good web developer who will listen to your requests, and who also will advise you on the best way to implement the design and SEO. He needs to talk realistically with you if the amount of work involved is not within your budget. Too often, web developers simply implement a client"(tm)s wishes without addressing the limitations and problems that come with that solution. Ethical and knowledgeable web developers can explain why you want the opinion of an SEO professional.

There are a number of issues that web designers might not handle correctly when top search engine rankings are important, including:

Search engine-friendly design Obviously, you want visitors to have a good experience on your site. But you also want search engine spiders to find all the pages and content that will rank your site for a particular keyword. If your site isn"(tm)t spider-friendly, it will never be top ranked. Here are some of the search engine-friendly web design issues we deal with regularly:

  • JavaScript drop-down or slide-out menus can prevent search engine spiders from following navigation links in web pages. There are several design alternatives that involve text links and don"(tm)t cause this problem.
  • Requiring cookies on your website also prevents spiders from indexing your content.
  • Web pages that require users to input any type of information in order to access the content blocks search engines from your pages.
  • Shopping cart systems that invoke session IDs. All shopping cart systems utilize session IDs, but the further along a shopper is in the buying process, the more search engine-friendly the system.
  • Unique title tags for each page of the site. Many automated web design programs and dynamic database systems do not allow for more than one title tag for every page of the site. Using a design that describes the uniqueness of each page of your site in the title tag achieves better results.

Navigation structure Search engines don"(tm)t notice if your site has creative navigation, but do notice if the navigation is cluttered. Depending on how many pages your site contains, tightly focused content organized by topic can pay off with higher search engine rankings. Design navigation to optimize themes and internal linking.

Website redesign etiquette After a redesign, there are usually old pages that are no longer used and might have been removed from the web server, but which are still listed in the search engines. Don"(tm)t miss out on search engine traffic because your web developer didn"(tm)t redirect those old URLs to the new ones. There are various protocols, depending on the web server, to handle URL redirects and maintain search engine rankings. A custom error page is also useful for visitors who click on a broken link or an address that is no longer available.

Copywriting and duplicate content issues If your web page contains the same wording as another page on the Internet, it could be filtered by the search engines because it is considered duplicate content. Search engines use a filter to remove duplicate content pages and spam from the results they provide. Unfortunately, many good web developers"(tm) work has fallen victim to the duplicate content filter. These developers unknowingly do a disservice to their clients when there are things they could do to avoid their pages"(tm) being filtered out of the results. Common causes of duplicate content include:

  • Identical web pages "" whether affiliate sites, copied pages or doorway pages "" that have the exact same content on them.
  • Product description pages with the exact same description as pages on the manufacturer"(tm)s website.
  • Improperly hosting multiple domain names for the same website.

Without question, original content is the best content for websites. Always use a quality copywriter to make your web writing unique and compelling for your particular audience.

Conclusion Resist the temptation of the one-stop shopping experience. If you give in, you will likely be sacrificing one or more of your goals for the convenience. When the business owner forges a cooperative relationship between the web site designer and SEO professional, everyone wins. This means thinking through the SEO issues at the beginning of the web site design plan.

Would you prefer to have the site that looks good and keeps the customers happy or the one that also gets 40 e-mail requests and new customers every day? This is reality for businesses that will not settle for anything less than experts in SEO and web site development.

  • Replanting your Christmas Tree

    Article Presented by:
    Ted Roberson

If you are in the market for a beautiful evergreen to be added to your landscape, Christmas is a perfect time to begin shopping. While most Christmas shoppers purchase a Christmas tree that has already been chopped at the bottom, there are several nurseries that offer live Christmas trees with the roots still intact.

This means you can fill a space in your landscape with the Christmas tree that you enjoyed all season long. This is also a great way to recycle your Christmas tree instead of simply throwing away one of natures precious resources.

The most important factor in finding a Christmas tree to replant is to find a tree that will transplant well after the holidays. Of course, the success of replanting a Christmas tree truly lies in the hands of the nursery where you receive the evergreen tree, as it is essential that they take extreme care of the roots by immediately placing them in burlap once the Christmas tree is removed from the ground.

A good nursery will also point you in the direction of a healthy Christmas tree and will point out which evergreens do best in replant situations. Most nurseries will suggest a pine, spruce or fir, all hardy varieties of the evergreen.

Keep in mind that when you are purchasing a replant Christmas tree, it will be more expensive than a tree that you will purchase just for the holiday season. While trees can cost anywhere from $30-$100 to purchase already chopped, a tree with roots intact may cost between $50-$200.

Although you might want to save money, it really is better to spend a little extra money and get a healthy, sturdy tree with long branches and a large root ball so that you will have transplant success.

Another important piece of advice regarding the replanting of your Christmas tree is to give the tree a 3-4 day transitional period in between the outdoors and indoors. This goes for both bringing the Christmas tree home as well as returning it to the outdoors. Otherwise your tree may suffer from shock because of the drastic difference in temperature. It is essential whether the tree is indoors or outdoors to keep it covered with more than the burlap sack for moisture and protection. You may want to try straw, a blanket, saw dust, or even old towels or newspaper. Of course while the tree is inside the home, the roots and the covering can be hidden by a beautiful decorative tree skirt. Whether the tree is inside or out, it will need to be watered regularly to prevent it from drying up or dying. This will most likely mean placing the root ball inside a large tub or bucket so that the roots can suck up the necessary nutrients. Again, this might be a tricky task while the tree is inside the home.

Horticulturists recommend that in order for your Christmas tree replanting to go well, do not leave the tree in the home for any longer than two weeks. If at all possible, try to limit the time the tree is inside to a week or slightly longer. Once your secondary transition period of 3-4 days is over, it is time to plant the tree in the ground.

As long as your climate zone does not experience freezing early in the winter season, you should have no problem planting the tree right after the Christmas holiday. If you think your climate zone may experience early freezing, then you may want to pre-dig the hole for your root ball, although this may mean guessing the size of the root ball.

Once you have replaced the soil, it is essential to water the tree and mulch it to keep in the warmth of your newly transplanted Christmas tree.

Profit with You Tube And Video Advertising- Take your marketing to the next level

    Article Presented by:
    Cathy Qazalbash

Take your marketing to the next level with the power of visual aids. In today"(tm)s business world your potential customers are getting savvier and sales copy needs to cater to their needs. The written word is just not enough anymore, additions like sound and video help to bring your message home and make your sales page really stand out and be noticed.

Google"(tm)s latest acquisition of "YouTube" has brought attention to an up and coming form of advertising, the use of videos. This has become a common form of advertising on many websites. How effective is it and how can it help you? This depends on the way you use it, your product and to a certain extent your market.

Firstly let us touch on YouTube: What is it and how does it work? It is a community network that is free to join. You can share videos with anyone you want. For instance if I had some hot piece of software that I wanted you my subscribers to know about I could make a little video on how it works and give you the link to see it for yourself at YouTube.

How to set up your account: It is free to join, so just fill out the form and you are ready to go. Uploading your video: Use a camcorder (webcam), digital camera or cell phone to make your video. Copy the movie to your computer and upload. If you want to do some editing you can use IMovie or Windows MovieMaker to add special effects and titles.

Your options: You have several options here are a few:

    1. You can find video groups with people who share your interests. Create and join these groups of people and enjoy sharing videos. 2. Customize by making playlists and subscriptions. 3. You can integrate with your website by using video embeds or APIs.

Be a Star: Members have a voting system if they like your video enough then they will give it a lot of votes. YouTube admin in return will put highly rated videos in their featured section. They also accept recommendations and look for interesting videos themselves.

So there you have it in a nutshell. But how can YouTube help your business? Here are a few ways:

  • The obvious one is if you are selling software and need to let your potential customers know how it works and show them how it can benefit them.
  • If you sell devices or appliances coffee makers tea makers etc. This is a nice little addition to your sales pitch.
  • Beauty and health products-so how can you use that eyeliner and mascara to make that beautiful melting look? Give a little demo movie and perk up those sales.
  • Got a service-sell yourself and your service with a short personal invitational video. Potential clients love the personal touch.

These are just a few ideas. I am sure you have many more. Put links to your YouTube videos on your website and make your sales copy come alive. Remember "seeing is believing" and videos can be powerful promotion tools. You can even put new life into your newsletter or ezine with a little show and tell. Your subscribers will enjoy the fun of seeing something different.

It’s Almost 2007 - Do You Know Where Your IT Assets Are?

    Article Presented by:
    Anne Sych

With the enormous increase in technology, companies large and small are accumulating more and more IT equipment. Keeping track of PCs, laptops, PDAs, printers, network equipment, software (the list goes on) can be a challenge. Assets move locations, get reassigned to other people, get replaced, etc. Management wants reports about asset allocation, usage and service history. Accounting personnel need accurate data for calculating depreciation.

Knowing what assets you have, where they are located, when they were purchased, if they are still in use, etc. is critical to any organization.

According to Gartner, Inc., a Stamford, CT-based research firm, IT asset management rank as one of the top five priorities for CIO"(tm)s in 2006. Furthermore, The Gartner report revealed that the majority of organizations do not have efficient ways of keeping track of their IT assets*. In addition to managing the huge amount of spending that companies place in their IT equipment purchases are the looming costs associated with system downtime (and related rebound customer service issues), potential overpayment on leasing, and software compliance issues.

Asset Management Software is a helpful tool to keep track of your company"(tm)s assets. Asset management systems allow you to keep track of your assets in one centralized place. A well-equipped system should include the following features:

  • Ability to sort assets by type, classification (sub-classification), location, and status.
  • Asset description details including related images, attachments, notes & tag numbers.
  • A complete transaction history to keep track of assets as they are moved around, status levels changed or re-assignment to different end users.
  • Ability to relate assets to other assets and to define relationships between assets.
  • Well-built reporting & strong search functionality. Another helpful tool is a PC inventory module, which will allow you to retrieve information from all of the PC's in your entire network. The software scans your network not only for hardware, but also software which aids in the management of software compliance issues.

Asset management systems can stand alone, and are available as a companion to many help desk software systems. When united with a help desk, you gain the ability to tie an asset to an incident which allows you to evaluate the life history of the asset, and flag any recurring problems.

So, as you consider future goals for your technology department, be sure to give strong consideration to the added value of an application designed to help protect your valuable IT investments. In the end, implementing a strong asset management system will most likely prove to have been a very wise use of your budget dollars.

  • Choosing A Good Web Designer

    Article Presented by:
    Constantin Chersin

One of the most important keys to your online business is a website. It does not matter what you are selling, a website is critical to the development of your business. Because of its importance it is necessary to make sure that your web design is done correctly. This may be one task that you will be outsourcing.

Choosing a web designer is like choosing any service provider you need to be careful and do a little research. Firstly be sure that you have a good idea of what you need. Define your concept and understand what market you will be targeting. Then plan your website around these 2 factors. Once you know exactly what you need you are ready to choose your web designer.

Choosing: One of the first things to decide is whether you will choose a local company or go global. This will depend on the complexity of your proposed web site. If it is fairly complicated you may want to narrow your field and choose a local company. Choices will be a little limited but you will have the advantage of talking to them face-to-face. However if your website does not require one-on-one discussion then you can broaden your options and go global.

When you are looking for a web design company the easiest way to find them is to look online. Just put the keyword "web design" into Google and many web design companies will come up. Or if you want to get value for money try hiring a freelance web designer at http://elance.com or http://guru.com Here are some points to help you choose:

    1. Do your research and gather a list of a few companies. 2. Research each company a. Look at their website b. Check their company credentials c. View examples of their work in their portfolio. 3. Getting quotes a. For a simple website you can get a basic flat rate b. For a website that will require ongoing work you may have to settle for a monthly rate or whatever you can work out with the company 4. Be specific in your time frame and make sure it is in the contract. 5. Get references if possible of satisfied clients 6. Before signing a contract be very careful to read everything including the fine print. Your business and money are on the line here.

Communication: Once you have chosen your web design company it is important to have a good line of communication with them. If they are in the same country you can phone them initially and discuss your needs. After the initial contact you can continue to communicate by email. IM messengers are very useful for instant communication and can be used globally. This is the best form of communication and will allow you to clear up any problems instantly. It is very important to build up a good rapport with your web designer.

With these few points you will be able to simplify the sometimes difficult task of outsourcing your web design and will get better results. Remember your website is the first thing your potential customer will see and you want them to get the best possible experience. A well designed website will go a long way to attracting new leads and converting them to the sale.

    The Holidays Are Coming…

    Article Presented by:
    Sally Goldberg, Ph.D.

    Q. Even though I try to teach the meaning of each special occasion as it comes, each year the commercialism of each holiday seems to win over. Do you have any suggestions for making this holiday season more meaningful for children? A. Yes, there is a way to keep holiday sensitivity at the forefront of your child"(tm)s thinking. October, November, and December are the holiday months. Each week during the holiday season life gets busier and busier as family dinners, gift-giving, and parties multiply in number. Excitement mounts day by day as one holiday leads into the next. As you enjoy each holiday event this season, here is a way to help make the time you spend together with your child into a rich and meaningful character building experience.

Halloween Starting with H for Halloween, HONESTY comes to mind. Dress-up is the theme. It is the official opportunity to pretend to be someone else. What better time than that to talk about honesty, the quality of being yourself and telling the truth. Because it is natural to act the part of a costume, explore with your child traits that go along with the choice of character. There may be admirable characteristics to emulate, but there also may be some that are not admirable and maybe even too distasteful to warrant keeping the costume choice. Remind your child how important it is to be honest and truthful.

Thanksgiving November brings us Thanksgiving and a T for TRUSTWORTHINESS. As you celebrate Thanksgiving and a month of giving thanks, you can talk to your child often about their tasks and responsibilities. Remind your children of how thankful you are for their daily contributions to family life. Take the opportunity to explain what it means to be counted on and to inspire trust.

December December brings 2 C"(tm)s for Christmas and Chanukah. They can be for CARE and CONCERN. Because there is a natural focus for these holidays on gift giving, it provides an excellent time to enrich your child"(tm)s thinking with thoughts of presents that are helpful and supportive to others. Both commercial items and non-material gestures can be based on the deeper attributes of caring and concern.

December has a K for us in the holiday of Kwanza, the African-American cultural festival for giving thanks for the first fruits of the harvest. That makes it just the right time to teach about KINDNESS. It provides the perfect reminder about not taking anything or anyone for granted. Just as much kind attention goes into producing a harvest, so many kind words and actions go into the making of great friendships. With the advent of this holiday season, I hope you will now have an easy way to make each holiday more meaningful to your children. With the pushes and pulls of commercialism all around, I hope that these letters of character will guide you and your children through festivities of holiday richness.

  • H for HONESTY
  • T for TRUSTWORTHINESS
  • C and C for CARE and CONCERN
  • K for KINDNESS

My very best wishes for safe, happy, and healthy holiday times together.

  • How To Make An Irresistible Ad

    Article Presented by:
    Cathy Qazalbash

Advertising can take on many different forms and sizes. They range from the blazing billboards that take your message to the world to the humblest classified ad. However you choose to say it your ad must announce your product and service and demand to be read and acted upon. Your ad will do one of 2 things, create curiosity for the potential customer to want more information or close the sale.

In order to be truly effective your ad must be irresistible. The most important part of closing the sale is the call for action. You can make a straight link-"buy now"-"click here," or use a subtler approach. Don't just ask people for the sale make it an irresistible offer.

Everyone loves a bargain and can rarely resist the urge to save a little with a discount. Here are two ways to make your ad different using a discount coupon:

    * A discount coupon attached to your ad with a special link or code will make your ad irresistible and help you close the sale. Special links are used all the time but make yours stand out by putting it at the bottom of your ad in the form of a coupon.

    * You can use a code for a mystery discount or a special link. Everyone likes a mystery and will be curious to go and see what you are offering them.

    * You can use your coupon for a free bonus gift just for trying our product or even just for visiting your site.

Discount coupons are a perfect way to invite your potential customer to "come on in and save a bundle." Now who can resist that! So don't just pitch your sales make it worthwhile with an irresistible offer.

How do you present your ad to make an offer your reader can't refuse? You make a conventional solo or expanded classified ad with benefits and then add a small coupon at the bottom.

Here is an example to illustrate what I mean.

Finally.. The Secrets Of Selling Online Revealed

To sell more you must have professional ad copy Ad copy will make or break your business It is the true secret of selling http://advertise-your-business.com/advertising.htm

3 good reasons why you cannot afford to be without our services:

We will work with you one -on-one until you are completely satisfied. Your satisfaction guaranteed Fast efficient service. http://advertise-your-business.com/advertising.htm

Use this coupon for special subscriber discounts

10% off Any advertising package A special offer for A-Y-B newsletter subscribers http://advertise-your-business.com/advertising.htm

You can use this for either products or services. Uses can include

    * Grand opening-just launched (website or program) * New service * New product * Subscriber special-A special thank you for your loyal readership

As always remember the golden rules: track test and record If you are not tracking your ads you are loosing money and your valuable time. Why? Because if you do not know which ad is pulling and which have produced little or no response you could be repeating costly mistakes, and missing out on valuable resources. When you know which ads are pulling you can repeat the ad. Keep a log of where your successful ads are running, for example, which particular ezine, note it down for future or repeat advertising. If you have a similar offer that appeals to the same market you can use that particular ezine again. However on the other hand if an ad has had little or no response make a note of this ezine too so you do not advertise similar offers to this list again. Tracking ads can be automated and easy to set up. There are several programs out there to help you do this.

However you use this discount coupon it will appeal to all your potential customers and can be used as a special coupon for established customers as well Advertising is a highly competitive field and anything you do to make your ad irresistible and noteworthy will increase your sales and allow you to get ahead of your competition.

    Never Settle For Ordinary!

    Article Presented by:
    Kent Jacobson a.k.a. Mr. Success

I have discovered a common attribute among successful people no matter the age, profession or location in the world ... they never settle for ordinary.

Successful people in all walks of life at various ages discovered ordinary is not going to get them very far in life. Sure, being ordinary provides stability and the ability to fit in or adapt, but not get them ahead. If getting to the front is what you strive for, then stand out and never settle for being ordinary. Of course you are not going be the front runner in every venture you try, but the important aspect of your life is having the drive to not be ordinary.

Easier said then done? Sure it is, it is true that everything comes at a price, wow how many cliché's can I get into one article, you get the point. Ok, here are my 6 how not to settle for being ordinary self checks for you.

Self Checks that will not allow you to settle for ordinary:

    1. Take on a Leadership role at any age, task or activity. Step up and start learning about your leadership skills. You probably already have a pretty good idea at this point what type of improvements are needed, this major step that takes experience and time.

    2. Learn from your mistakes; do not make the same mistake over again.

    3. Continuously Improve yourself mentally and physically. Find new and interesting subjects to learn about, searching out information online or better yet, reading a book provides a foothold into a wonderful habit.

    4. Mentor those around you by exhibiting positive behaviors and habits. By teaching those around you about subjects within you span of knowledge you gain even more subject comprehension.

    5. Set goals for yourself. Short and long term goals, easy goals or stretch goals ... just set them and post them somewhere in writing on your computer, on the fridge in your office or car. Check yourself periodically on progress or lack there of.

    6. Be Driven; do not let yourself become complacent or satisfied with where you are at or what you have achieved. When you reach some of your goals set new ones, tougher goals or some people refer to them as stretch goals.

If you do not know where you are going, how will you ever know when you get there?

Let me remind you what E.M. Cioran wrote We are all geniuses when we dream!

Setting Boundaries. What?...Boundaries That Empower the Work at Home Entrepreneur

    Article Presented by:
    Ruby River

With the ever increasing stressors and decreases of today's work environment, more people are deciding to move out of employment and move into a home based business. This decision is being made for a variety of reasons, and while the end line is usually the bottom line, flexibility, more often than not, is the key objective. Our world is quickly turning into one where there is more work at home entrepreneurs than ever before, and that number is continuing to rise. These are just some of the benefits. Add as you will:

    1. No commuting. 2. More family time. 3. Setting your own schedule. 4. Receiving the total benefits for your hard work (nothing like being the CEO of your own creation) 5. Everyday is casual day!

Sounds appealing, doesn't it? It is, however, for those that have created a home based business need to learn how to formulate, implement, and consistently adhere to a few boundaries. Boundaries are important for productivity, consistency and creating a Flow. Most of your family and friends would not consider calling you at your employment to gossip, ask you to run an errand, or ask anything of you that would take up your time or take you away from your employment during work hours. Unfortunately, often for the work at home entrepreneur, family, friends and neighbors do not really understand the distinctions that while you may be "at home," you are definitely "at work," and that your "real business" takes "real dedication." It is up to you to set the boundaries you want followed, and it is up to you to be sure that it happens. Setting boundaries begins with you. You need to set boundaries for yourself, and be the example of your own expectations.

Obviously, before you begin setting out to set-up your business boundaries, think about your individual business and its requirements. For example, if most of your work is in an Internet home based business capacity, with very few, if any, real life meetings or telephone calls, you have a bit more flexibility in your schedule. If, on the other hand, your work at home business consists of meetings and telephone calls during normal business hours, you will want to take that into consideration.

With all this in mind, here are three steps that could be taken in order to create and implement those needed boundaries:

Normal business hours. Not that you can not change things up here and there, because you can - this is why you have a work at home business, but setting your normal, daily business hours will help in a multitude of ways. For one, family and friends can be told that you work on such and such days from such and such time and that unless it is an emergency, you are not available.

Flexibility with structure. Be aware of family events, errands, or other issues that may break up your day ahead of schedule. No, you can not always plan for these things, but when you can, remember to work first and play later. This way, you can start your work day earlier, or plan on working later to encompass those preplanned events. It is far too easy to promise ourselves that we will "get back to something later," when without a plan, we often do not. This will give you a less stressed work day so when those unexpected things do pop up, you will feel more able to deal with them.

You have committed to a home based business and with this decision comes with it the bottom line--flexibility and yes, personal fulfillment. If you want to take your children to school, pick them up from school; take an art class; go to the gym during your work day--these activities could be included everyday in your business boundaries. It is your business and you are your own boss.

Put physical boundaries in place. Take steps to decrease your interruptions. This could include setting up a work only email address (and then do not check your personal email during working hours!) having a dedicated phone line or cell phone for your home based business (this way you can let your home number go to voicemail while you are working). Also, you can create a "Do Not Disturb" sign for your office door - when you hang it up and close your door, this will signify to your family that you are in serious work mode.

For the most part, boundaries are about the realization of the commitment you made to yourself when you decided to work at home. Decide on your boundaries, communicate them, and then commit yourself to following through. The end result will be a fulfilling home based business that gives you everything you desire!

    Happiness: The Quest

    Article Presented by:
    Lambert Klein

Happiness is something many of us strive for. Why is it so hard to achieve, especially at times when you need it the most? How do we change a gloomy mood into a lighter or happier one?

There are some things within our power that will help us accomplish these goals.

What are some benefits of happiness that could encourage you to work towards it even more.
  • Health
  • Self Confidence
  • A sense of Purpose
  • More Productivity
  • Achieve Your Goals
  • Weight Loss

Funny thing is that the above list also works in reverse. If you are healthy, self confident and all the rest listed, than you will most likely be happier. Sometimes happiness is staring us right in the face.

Here are some ways that you can create happiness in your life.

    Exercise:

It appears that exercising comes up a lot when we are speaking about improving various things in our lives. It has been shown to improve mood by making us healthier and increasing endorphins.

    Foods & Diet:

Eating chocolate is probably more of a pleasure than sustained happiness, even though it can provide us with a short-lived boost.

A healthy diet though is vital for our health and happiness. Too much sugar and junk foods are provisional emotional boosters. In the long run these problem foods will degrade us physically as well as emotionally.

Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, including raw veggies. Cut back on unhealthy foods and don't "Super Size" it.

    Supplements:

If you are not receiving all of your nutrients in your diet then you may want to supplement by taking vitamins.

There are some specific supplements that target your mood. You could discuss these with your health practitioner.

    Music:

Music can bring miracles to your mood. Go ahead and listen to something upbeat and happy.

    Rewards:

Happiness comes from rewards as well. They can be simple things. You find a great bargain on something you been wanting. Maybe someone offers you a simple item of interest. You do a task and are complimented on it by someone else or yourself. Even finding a coin on the sidewalk can give you a "Reward" feeling that can bring happiness to you.

The greatest reward can come from giving a compliment to someone or saying a kind word.

    Gratitude:

Be grateful for what you have. This simple statement can make a giant difference in your life! Everyday think of everything you have. The enormous things, and the little things. Are you living in a cardboard box? No. Then be very grateful. Yes? Be grateful for the cardboard box.

Have gratitude for friends and family, the home you live in, the food you eat. Isn't it great having air to breath, freedom to go where you want. Don't take these for granted but have gratitude and give thanks.

    Love:

Well Love can clearly bring happiness. Love for your spouse, friends, neighbors and strangers. Give Love and you will receive Love. Learn to Love Yourself. Let's all remember that when we interact with others.

    Enjoyment:

Do what you enjoy. This could be a hobby or going for a walk in the park. If you do things that you like it's bound to bring happiness.

    Forgiveness:

Try a bit harder to say kind words to others. Place yourself in the other's person place for a moment. Sure there are some people that act so mean and hateful. Remember you only hurt yourself when you return meanness or hold resentment and anger inside.

    Help Others:

Find ways to make others happy. You may be surprised that by willingly helping others to find joy can have a positive impact on you as well. Help others to find meaning in life. Keep them company.

    Build Self Confidence:

Do your work the best you can. Learn new skills. Find meaning in your career and life. Enjoy a new hobby or game. You can boost your self-confidence by learning new and enjoyable things. Raise your self-confidence and you raise your happiness.

Happiness can make you smarter! Is it really surprising that positive attracts positive? If you do these things you will increase your happiness.

What is the most important thing to you? Is it money, a fancy car or a mansion, maybe your health? What about happiness?

Well let's think a moment.... If you have happiness, all the happiness you want or need, would that be the most important thing to you?

What good is money or the rest without happiness? If you are truly happy you won't need to worry about the rest. If you require money to be happy then you will have it. Maybe the saying, "Money Can't Buy Happiness", should be "Happiness Can Produce Money".

Try to release all anger and negative emotions. You can accomplish this easier once you realize you are only hurting yourself and other loved ones around you. Sure it will take regular practice. You may struggle with this, but it can become second nature after awhile.

It's up to you. Do you want to be negative and unhappy or positive and learn to be happier? You can start now by adding positive attributes to your life. Be good, smile and put on a happy face!

Internet copywriting ideas that will help you sell

    Article Presented by:
    Steven Gerber

In the world of business, nothing is as much as noteworthy as the power of words. Words can craft influence that can manipulate the market world. It is because words can direct people, influence culture, and even transform the future of the planet.

People with impeccable skills in manipulating words are therefore the skeleton of successful businesses. Examples of these people are spin doctors, novelists, copywriters, journalists, and others of the like.

When we speak of the online businesses, the title of being the pillar of advertising can be accounted to the internet copywriters. It is they who make the people sign up, subscribe, register, or other similar actions that can eventually convert them to potential customers.

Being the backbone of the Web commerce, proficient internet copywriters are one of the most highest-earning individuals on the planet.

However, it is misleading to note that the internet is brimful of copywriters. Offline copywriting is far much different from internet copywriting. It does not mean that writers for offline businesses can easily be transformed to be productive writers for the online version. While there are a handful of competent copywriters who can work for offline advertising, only a few can be considered effective in online advertising.

The web has developed a culture of its own. It has its own approach and tongue which are greatly distinct. This is what usually people misunderstand about the nature of internet copywriting.

To be a productive copywriter, it is essential to stick to a guideline to make the most of internet advertising. However, it is through experience that one can really master the arts of online marketing and copywriting.

The recipe of effective internet copywriting includes making your offers irresistible to your potential customers. Perhaps you can give a time guarantee for your products; this gives your readers the impression that your offers are risk free. Take the possible risks away from the target buyer so you can make your offers less resistant to them.

Keep your word. Whatever happens during your transactions, respect your customers. Do whatever you have stated in the advertisements of the offers. Nothing beats an advertisement through the mouth of a satisfied customer. Talk to yourself as if you are one of your customers. Ask yourself about what makes you buy. Is your answer feasible? If it is, you can apply that marketing strategy in your writing.

If in case you have no experience on internet copywriting yet, there is no need to worry. More than anybody else, you know what your service or product is all about. Let that lead you to the ways of an efficient internet copywriter.

One of the most important elements of successful sales is time. Insert a sense of rush to your offer to make people react quickly. This can be accomplished by setting limits to the number of items or decreasing the time of the bargain. However, this may be risky since people may ignore your offer and eventually this will lead you to loss of sales.

To sum it up, you just have to make your write-ups irresistible. Make your customers feel that it's worth their effort to read your articles and to purchase the items you are advertising. Of course, do not forget to meet your customers' expectations.

Green Tea: The Japanese Secret to Good Health

    Article Presented by:
    Marcus Stout

Cancer remains a number-one killer in countries around the world. Therefore, it should come as little surprise that medical researchers are exploring new avenues in an effort to find ways to attack cancer.

The investigation into alternative cancer therapies often begins by examining the cultures of specific nations in an effort to determine whether diet or other customs could help unlock the secret to curing this dreaded disease. Since green tea has been a staple of the Japanese diet for centuries, it's not surprising that new attention is being paid to the tea's therapeutic benefits.

In recent years, doctors and scientific researchers have been focusing new attention on the idea of drinking green tea in an effort to keep cancer at bay. It's been thought that the beverage possesses certain natural properties which make it a likely cancer preventative.

    Studying Green Tea In-Depth

In order to look at this issue in more depth, researchers Kazue Imai, Kenji Suga, and Kei Nakachi of the Saitama Cancer Center Research Institute in Saitama, Japan, decided to examine the effects of green tea drinking among the Japanese. In an article entitled "Cancer-Preventive Effects of Drinking Green Tea Among a Japanese Population" in Preventative Medicine magazine, the research team explored the therapeutic benefits of green tea at length.

When the researchers began their investigation, there had been a number of studies indicating that the main ingredient of green tea, epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, was anti-carcinogenic. However, there was little evidence to suggest that EGCG could prevent cancer in human beings. While some human studies had been conducted, the results were far from conclusive.

The Japanese research team strongly believed that it was absolutely critical to conduct an in-depth study in an Asian nation, given the popularity of tea consumption in the Orient. Ultimately, the Japanese scientists found that those Japanese subjects who drank green tea were less likely to develop cancer. This was particularly true among women who consumed more than ten cups of green tea each day.

    A Natural Cancer Prevention Tool

The rate of cancer was low among both men and women who consumed large amounts of green tea. In addition, a study of 384 cancer patients indicated that increased consumption of green tea was linked with a delay in the onset of cancer. Again, this phenomenon was most prevalent among women who consumed more than ten cups of green tea each day. The average delay for the onset of cancer was four years-four years of enhanced quality of life for the subjects involved.

To a Western mind, drinking ten cups of green tea daily can seem mind-boggling-especially if one has difficulty consuming eight glasses of water each day. It should be noted that, on average, the subjects were probably consuming 150 ml of green tea per cup. That would amount to about 300 to 400 milligrams of EGCG-a healthy amount, by any standard.

    More Powerful Than Once Thought

It has become clear that green tea is far more powerful in fighting cancer than researchers once thought. For instance, scientists recently discovered that green tea's unique chemical makeup enables it to combat one of the key cancer-causing molecules linked to tobacco use. The ground-breaking evidence appeared in a journal published by the American Chemical Society.

In the study, researchers examined the effects of two components of green tea, EGCG and epigallocatechin, also known as EGC. These substances are close to the consistency of cancer-preventing substances in red wine, grapes, broccoli, and cabbage. The research team discovered that EGCG and EGC can inhibit a molecule that often "turns on" genes that can be harmful to the body, leading to the development of cancer.

However, it's unclear whether the results in the science lab could be replicated in a person's home, since the effectiveness of drinking green tea depends on how the beverage is used by the human body. In addition, there appear to be differences between varieties of green tea, so additional study is necessary to prove the beverage's effectiveness in inhibiting potentially harmful molecular processes.

    The Need for More Research

Based upon the evidence presented in the study conducted by Imai, Suga, and Nakachi, there can be little doubt that their research indicates that consuming green tea can lead to the prevention of cancer. However, additional research is definitely needed in order to determine which organs of the body could best benefit from green tea.

In other words, will drinking green tea fight stomach cancer? Breast cancer? Colon cancer? At this point, the answers to these questions remain unclear. Yet, it should be noted that laboratory tests show that green tea's EGCG can zero in on organs in an effort to prevent cancer.

The initial research into cancer prevention using green tea is incredibly encouraging. To begin with, green tea is an ordinary part of many people's diets, so drinking the beverage does not necessarily mean a radical lifestyle change. If people are already accustomed to consuming green tea, it stands to reason that they wouldn't mind consuming more of it, if it would mean preventing the occurrence of cancer.

    A Virtually Problem-Free Solution

Some approaches to preventing cancer may seem initially appealing, but can become decidedly less so because of the side effects involved. However, there are no toxic effects linked to green tea consumption, meaning that this cancer-fighting remedy is especially promising.

In addition, green tea appears to be a powerful cancer prevention tool. If the beverage's therapeutic effects were limited, there wouldn't be a great deal of interest in using it as a cancer preventative. However, the strong link between green tea consumption and cancer prevention indicated by the Japanese study means that there is good reason for people to consider adding green tea to their diets.

    Effects Beyond the Orient

Some might conclude that green tea drinking only prevents cancer among Asian populations, but researchers in the field believe that would be a mistake. It's entirely possible that, if Westerners also made green tea a significant part of their daily diet, they would also see the preventative effects.

With so many supermarkets and convenience stores in the West now stocking green tea, it may be just a matter of time before Westerners will also experience the beverage's medicinal benefits.

Green Tea's Effectiveness in Fighting Pancreatic Cancer

    Article Presented by:
    Jon M. Stout

Cancer is one of our country's most frightening diseases. One million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year, and about 300 people will die from it each and every day. Scientists continue scrambling for understanding into what causes cancer, so that we can prevent it. In addition, work is ongoing to find effective ways of treating this disease.

In recent years, there have been quite a few studies on green tea and its cancer preventing characteristics. These studies are fueled by examination of Asian cultures, where green tea is part of everyday life, and where the incidences of heart disease, stroke and cancer are far lower than here in the US. Asian cultures have understood for many years that green tea is effective in slowing down the aging process and preventing and treating disease.

All tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant; white tea, green tea and black tea all come from this same source. The differences are a result of how the tea is processed. Green and white tea is not fermented during processing, but black tea is fermented. This fermentation process chemically changes the natural anti-oxidants that tea contains.

While even after fermentation, tea is quite healthy; it is the anti-oxidants in their most natural form that seem to have the best anti-aging and disease fighting qualities. In particular, the catechins EGCG is one of the most powerful anti-oxidants you can consume.

Anti-oxidants are important to us because they combat free radicals that are naturally created by our body during the digestion process. These free radicals must be eliminated or they will damage our cells and our DNA. A deficiency in anti-oxidants allows these free radicals to rule, causing us to age more quickly and develop diseases like cancer and heart disease.

So, a diet rich in anti-oxidants has been shown effective in preventing cancer and heart disease, lowering cholesterol and reducing your risk of having a stroke. Doctors recommend that we eat a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables for their anti-oxidant effects; however, we are now learning that one of the best ways to get your daily dose of anti-oxidants is through drinking green tea.

As great as this news is for the prospects of preventing cancer, there is even more exciting news. There is evidence to suggest that not only might green tea prevent cancer, but might also be an effective treatment for cancer. Recent studies have shown that tea – green and black – appear to slow the progression of cancer cells.

This particular study was done on prostate and pancreatic cancer cells. The cells were treated in vitro with extracts from green and black tea. The cells were exposed to tea extracts for a period of 24 hours. The growth of the cancer cells was inhibited by as much as 90% during the period of exposure to the tea.

In addition to these exciting results, this study also suggested that green and black tea may inhibit the expression of the gene known as MDR-1. MDR-1 stands for multi-drug resistant gene. This gene expresses a drug resistant substance into the tumor cells that diminishes the effect that treatment has on the cells.

This study found that during the 24 hour period when the cells were exposed to the tea extracts, the amount of MDR-1 expressed by the cancer cells was decreased. This leads us to the conclusion that using green tea in conjunction with traditional cancer treatments may increase the effectiveness of the cancer drugs. There have been other studies, as well, that have indicated that cancer drugs are more effective when they are administered along with green tea.

Of course, as with many other findings, more research is needed before we fully understand the benefits that might be gained from using tea to prevent and treat cancer. Most importantly, many of these studies that have only been conducted on mice or in test tubes need human trials. Only then will we truly understand how lab findings might translate into real treatment and prevention options.

One thing's for sure, though; there is no downside to incorporating tea into your diet. Green tea, in particular, is refreshing, healthy and filled with anti-oxidants. It is a healthier alternative to that morning cup of coffee, because it has a high anti-oxidant level and because it is significantly lower in caffeine than coffee.

Green tea is a wonderful way to help prevent aging and disease. Adding green tea to your diet is a simple and effective way to improve your health and chances of living to a ripe old age. As the research evolves, there's no doubt that we'll gain greater insight into exactly how green tea works and how we can best use its power. But, in the meantime, you can be assured that drinking green tea every day is a healthy habit.

Cancer Preventing Qualities of Green Tea

    Article Presented by:
    Jon M. Stout

One of the most important discoveries resulting from the many years of cancer research is the indication that there may be several natural ways to prevent cancer. Learning how we might prevent cancer could be the most important tool in eradicating this disease.

Determining cancer prevention techniques has been difficult in many cases, because we don't know what causes many types of cancer. However, there are many forms of cancer that are partly, or completely, preventable. For example, we know that the vast majority of those who suffer from lung cancer are smokers. And, a large percentage of skin cancer is caused by over exposure to the sun and lack of sun protection.

If we can further our research and learn the causes of more types of cancer, then we will be well on our way to preventing many incidences of this disease. There have been some promising findings, and it appears that one thing that we can do to prevent many different types of cancer is drink green tea.

Researchers began looking at green tea's properties because of the vast differences in health concerns between Asian cultures and our own. While more Asians than Americans are smokers, they have a far lower incidence of heart disease and lung cancer – the two diseases most likely to affect smokers. In addition, Asians have a lower incidence of cancer, heart disease and stroke over all than Americans. And, Asians drink, on average, four cups of green tea each day.

There is very promising news about the possibilities that green tea can help prevent disease. Green tea is loaded with some of the most powerful anti-oxidants around, and we know that anti-oxidants are one of the most important keys to preventing cancer and many other diseases that plague us.

Anti- oxidants are important because they combat free radicals in our bodies. These free radicals are created as a by product of converting the food we eat to energy. If they are not kept in check, they wreak havoc on our bodies by damaging our cells and DNA. This leads to faster aging and a higher risk of many diseases, including cancer, heart disease and stroke. They even make us look older.

So, to prevent your risk of disease, doctors recommend that you have a diet high in anti-oxidants. And, not all anti-oxidants are created equal. It's helpful to eat the foods that contain the most potent anti-oxidants. This includes pomegranates, tomatoes and blueberries. And, it also includes drinking green tea each day.

There have been many studies that link green tea with cancer prevention. One of the most interesting articles available on the subject was published by the University Hospitals of Cleveland. This article outlines in detail the findings of many studies that lead to the conclusion that green tea is effective at preventing many forms of cancer.

Green tea has been shown to be effective at protecting against many types of cancers when it becomes part of everyday life. It has shown promise in preventing colon cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer and stomach cancer.

Most of these studies have been conducted on mice in laboratories or in vitro. And while, to be sure, we need to test the findings on humans, the indications are promising. And, to date, several human trials have begun. Of course, in the case of proving that green tea can prevent cancer, studies on humans would need to last for years to be conclusive.

There have also been some studies that indicate that green tea may even be effective at treating patients who already have cancer. Several studies have shown that traditional chemotherapy drugs were more effective when the patient was consuming green tea regularly during the months receiving treatment.

In addition to studies that indicate green tea's effectiveness in preventing cancer when added to the diet, there is also indication that it may be effective at preventing and treating skin cancer when applied topically. Several studies have been conducted that have led to more research to be done on humans. It's highly likely that you'll see green tea extract added to your favorite sunscreen and skin care products in the future.

Green tea holds such wonderful possibilities, in part because it has no side effects. Even if green tea proves not to be effective at preventing or treating cancer, it is healthy and you can consume as much as you want without fear.

Another reason that green tea could hold so much promise is that it's inexpensive. Adding green tea to your diet is a simple and cost effective way to protect your health. It is widely available and affordable to the masses.

So, drink up! Green tea is good for you – we know that. And, it's likely that it's even better for you than you imagined. A cup or two of green tea each day may be the key to protecting your health for years to come!

Can Green Tea Treat Skin Cancer?

    Article Presented by:
    Jon M. Stout

Some of the most promising cancer research going on today involves the use of green tea and its ability to prevent cancer and even treat cancer in patients who have already been diagnosed with the disease. Researchers are examining many possibilities for how green tea might be used, and working to determine the cancer types for which it holds the most promise.

Over the last few years, scientists have learned a great deal about the importance of a diet rich in anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants are a powerful tool in slowing down the aging process and preventing disease. They are even more important than even with the number of processed foods we consume. Fresh fruits and vegetables are rich in anti-oxidants, as is dark chocolate and green tea. Coffee is also a source of anti-oxidants, though it is not nearly as rich in them as green tea.

The process our bodies go through to convert our food to energy creates free radicals each day. Free radicals are oxygen containing molecules that damage our cells and DNA. If we don't combat them, the make us age more quickly, they contribute to the development of blocked arteries and the make us more susceptible to the diseases and problems of aging.

So, it's certain that we all need to consume a high level of anti-oxidants as part of our everyday diet. But, of particular interest are the anti-oxidants in green tea. Asian cultures consume a large amount of green tea, and have espoused its healing properties for centuries. And, it just so happens that they have a much lower incidence of cancer and heart disease.

There are, of course, other differences between Asian culture and ours. Notably, we are far more likely to be overweight; and research has shown us that obesity is a significant risk factor for many diseases including cancer and heart disease. However, one other interesting fact; Asian cultures, particularly Japanese men are far more likely to smoke than we are, yet they still have a much lower incidence of cancer and heart disease.

So, green tea is of significant importance in our quest to live longer and be healthier. There are hundreds of studies that have shown that green tea is a good cancer preventative and can increase the effectiveness of cancer treatments.

One important study is linked to skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer. While only 4% of skin cancer cases are melanoma, it causes more deaths than any other type of skin cancer.

The number of new cases of melanoma is on the rise in the US- an estimated 62,000 Americans will be diagnosed in 2006, and about 8000 people will die from melanoma in the US this year. Nonmelanoma is extremely common. It is estimated that about one million people develop nonmelanoma cancer each year; this is about the same number of people who contract all other types of cancer combined. However, people rarely die from nonmelanoma – only about 1000 each year in the US.

Since skin cancer is so prevalent in our country, it's critical that we spend time and money researching how we can treat this cancer. Of course, skin cancer is, in part, preventable. So, as part of a healthy lifestyle we should be diligent about protecting ourselves from the sun, because this is the most important aspect of preventing both types of skin cancer.

To reduce your risk of skin cancer, be sure that you are always protected from the sun, even on cloudy days, and even in the winter. Cover as much of your body as possible with clothing, and use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher on any areas that you cannot cover. Be sure to follow the directions on sunscreen closely; many people do not use enough sunscreen and do not reapply it often enough.

As scientists are researching ways to prevent and treat skin cancer, the results involving green tea are promising. One particular study reported by the Alternative Medicine Review showed excellent results in skin cancer prevention and treatment in mice with the use of green tea both applied topically and given orally.

In this study, mice were exposed to about seven different kinds of carcinogens, all of which are known to cause or contribute to skin cancer. The mice were divided into groups. Some of the groups were treated with green tea by substituting it for their drinking water. Others were treated topically with green tea extract. Some of the groups of mice were already suffering from skin cancer, as well.

The research was conducted so that mice undergoing exposure to each different carcinogen were treated with green tea in both forms. For example, some of the mice being exposed to UVB rays were treated with only oral green tea, while others were treated with only topical green tea extract.

The research concluded that all of the mice benefited from the green tea treatment, whether it was given orally or applied topically. In every group, the green tea was effective at preventing skin cancer. The study found that green tea applied topically seems to scavenge and destroy skin cells that are likely to become cancerous before they can mutate.

The green tea, whether given orally or applied topically, slowed down the cancer growth in the mice that were already infected. In addition, green tea given orally seemed to cause some regression of existing skin cancer.

Of course, these results are very promising. If this research is a good indicator of how green tea might work in humans, as well, then topically applied green tea may become the new trend in skin products. In addition, these findings support other findings that conclude that drinking green tea is effective in preventing and treating many forms of cancer.

The next step, of course, is to conduct human trials to see if the same results prove true. It certainly seems that we have enough information to suggest that green tea should be part of everyone's diet for its ability to slow down aging and prevent disease.

The most exciting news from this study is the idea that we might benefit dramatically from the simple step of applying a form of green tea to our skin. Addition of green tea to our sunscreens, lotions and moisturizers could have a dramatic effect on the number of skin cancer diagnosed each year. And, even for those already diagnosed with skin cancer, green tea applied to the skin might prove to be an effective treatment to kill the cancer cells, or at least slow down their progression.
